Hyundai Motor America Reports Record 2023 Sales

Hyundai Motor America ended 2023 on a high note, achieving its highest December sales total in company history with 75,164 units sold, marking a 4-percent increase compared to December 2022. This achievement extends Hyundai’s streak to 17 consecutive months of increasing total sales. Notably, December set total sales records for several models, including the IONIQ 5, Santa Fe PHEV, Santa Fe HEV, Tucson, Tucson PHEV, and Palisade, with some models like the Tucson PHEV, Santa Fe PHEV, and Palisade achieving all-time monthly sales records.

Randy Parker, CEO of Hyundai Motor America, expressed satisfaction with the company’s performance, noting that 2023 was the third consecutive year of record-breaking retail sales for Hyundai. Parker attributed this success to a consistent increase in monthly sales driven by consumer demand for Hyundai’s products, a range that received numerous accolades throughout the year. Parker’s comments underscore Hyundai’s commitment to delivering high-quality vehicles and its positive outlook for 2024.

New Hyundai Records Set

In the fourth quarter of 2023, Hyundai sold 206,048 vehicles, setting a new record for Q4 sales and representing a 5-percent increase from Q4 2022. This period also saw a significant 37 percent growth in eco-friendly vehicle retail sales compared to the same period in 2022.

For the entire year, Hyundai’s sales reached an all-time high of 801,195 vehicles, an 11 percent increase from 2022. The Tucson model was a standout performer, selling over 200,000 vehicles for the first time and contributing to Hyundai’s record year in retail sales. Fleet sales constituted 10.9 percent of Hyundai’s total volume for the year.

Hyundai’s achievements in 2023 were not limited to sales. The company’s models received several prestigious awards and recognitions. The 2024 Elantra and Tucson were awarded the TOP SAFETY PICK+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The IONIQ 5 earned a spot on Car and Driver’s 10Best Trucks and SUVs List for the second consecutive year. The IONIQ 6 was named The Drive’s Best EV of 2023, while the IONIQ 5 and Kona won 2024 Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Awards. Additionally, the IONIQ 6 was recognized by Fatherly as one of the Top 10 Family Cars of the Year for 2023.
