The 2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz is Volkswagen’s all-electric homage to the iconic Microbus. Designed with modern technology and sustainability in mind, the ID. Buzz aims to capture the spirit of the original while providing the advanced features expected in today’s vehicles.
What is the ID. Buzz?
The ID. Buzz is Volkswagen’s electric reincarnation of the classic Microbus, which was beloved for its distinctive design and versatility. The new ID. Buzz maintains the nostalgic feel of the original but updates it with an all-electric powertrain and modern features. The microbus was popularized in the 1960s with the hippie culture and is considered by some as the first true minivan.
Relationship to the Microbus
The ID. Buzz retains several design elements that made the Microbus iconic, such as the oversized VW logo and short overhangs. The vehicle also features an expansive greenhouse, dual power-sliding rear doors, and a variety of retro-inspired color options. These elements create a direct visual link to the past while incorporating contemporary advancements.
Availability and Trims
The ID. Buzz will be available in the U.S. starting in 2025. It will be offered in three trims: Pro S, Pro S Plus, and a launch-only 1st Edition. Each trim level is designed to cater to different customer needs, offering a range of features and configurations.
Vehicle Design
The design combines retro styling with modern touches. Exterior features include 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and a selection of two-tone and single-tone color options. Inside, the ID. Buzz offers three interior themes—Moonlight, Dune, and Copper—each tailored to complement the exterior colors. The Moonlight interior features dark brown leatherette seats with white piping, blue door inserts, a dark wood-look dash, and a black headliner. As for the Dune interior, this one offers light grey leatherette seats with clay piping, clay door inserts, and a light wood-look dash for a bright, coastal feel. Lastly, the Copper interior combines rich brown leatherette seats with yellow piping, brown door inserts, and a washed wood-look dash for a mid-century modern vibe.
Features and Technology
The ID. Buzz comes equipped with a 12.9-inch infotainment display, a 5.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and 30-color ambient lighting. Standard features also include wireless phone charging, wireless App-Connect, and Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE advanced driver assistance technology. Higher trims add features like a head-up display, Area View camera system, and a premium harman/kardon sound system.
Power and Electric-Drive System
This electric vehicle comes with a 91-kWh battery, providing 282 horsepower in rear-wheel drive (RWD) models. The all-wheel drive (AWD) models offer up to 335 horsepower. Both configurations aim to deliver smooth, efficient performance, with the RWD models focusing on range and the AWD models providing additional power and traction.
Rear-Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive
The Pro S trim is available only in rear-wheel drive, accommodating up to seven passengers with a bench seat. The Pro S Plus and 1st Edition models offer both RWD and AWD configurations, with options for bench seating or captain’s chairs depending on the configuration. This flexibility allows buyers to choose the setup that best suits their needs.
Safety Features
The ID. Buzz includes a comprehensive suite of safety features. Standard on all models are Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE advanced driver assistance technologies, offering hands-on semi-automated driving capabilities. Features like Park Assist Plus with Memory Parking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist help enhance safety and ease of driving.
