Reviewed: 2026 Mazda CX-30

Mazda continues to blur the line between mainstream and premium with the 2026 Mazda CX-30. This subcompact utility vehicle delivers upscale materials, standard all-wheel drive, and an engaging driving experience at a price point that undercuts many entry-luxury rivals. In its upper trims, the CX-30 does not merely compete with other small crossovers. It edges into territory typically occupied by the Acura ADX and Audi Q3. That positioning is intentional.

For 2026, Mazda sharpens the formula. New Aire Editions introduce distinctive styling cues. Select trims gain a larger 10.25-inch center display with touchscreen capability for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Underneath it all, every CX-30 retains standard i-Activ AWD and a well-sorted chassis. The result is a small crossover with big ambitions.

Models, Features, and Pricing

The 2026 CX-30 lineup opens with the 2.5 S, priced at $25,975. It features a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine producing 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission with manual and sport modes is standard. All-wheel drive comes standard across the range. New for 2026, Mazda adds a brake-based limited slip differential and revised dampers to improve traction and ride comfort.

Standard safety features are extensive. They include Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Smart Brake Support, Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Driver Attention Alert. Inside, the 2.5 S offers an 8.8-inch display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, an eight-speaker audio system, and cloth seating. LED lighting and 16-inch alloy wheels complete the package.

Next is the 2.5 S Select Sport, starting at $27,660. This trim adds 18-inch black metallic wheels, heated side mirrors with memory and reverse tilt, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The cabin gains heated front seats, an eight-way power driver seat with memory, dual-zone climate control, leatherette upholstery, and Alexa Built-in integration. The upgrades are meaningful and bring the CX-30 closer to entry-luxury expectations.

Preferred, Air Edition, and Carbon Edition

The 2.5 S Preferred, priced at $29,290, introduces the newly available 10.25-inch center display with touchscreen functionality for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless phone charging joins the feature set. A power-sliding glass moonroof, silver roof rails, rain-sensing wipers, and rear parking sensors enhance daily usability. Leatherette seating continues, while front and rear parking sensors and additional rear braking support expand safety coverage.

New for 2026 is the 2.5 S Aire Edition, which starts at $29,850. It builds on the Preferred trim but adds gloss black exterior badges, black roof rails, and black 18-inch wheels. The interior adopts a lighter theme, highlighted by white leatherette seats with gray cloth inserts and suede-like trim accents. The Aire Edition is about design. It gives the CX-30 a distinctive personality without stepping into turbocharged pricing.

The 2.5 S Carbon Edition, priced at $31,030, pairs Polymetal Gray paint with red leather seating. It includes the Preferred trim features and adds a Bose 12-speaker premium audio system, HD Radio, and a frameless auto-dimming mirror with Homelink. The contrast between exterior restraint and bold interior color sets it apart in this segment.

Premium With Turbocharging

The 2.5 S Premium begins at $33,240. It layers on a heated steering wheel, a 360-degree View Monitor, and an Active Driving Display with available Traffic Sign Recognition. An Adaptive Front-lighting System, leather seating, a power liftgate, and signature LED lighting elevate the CX-30 further. At this level, the crossover begins to mirror the feature content of compact luxury utilities.
Turbocharged models move the CX-30 firmly into premium territory.

The 2.5 Turbo Aire Edition starts at $34,410. It pairs the distinctive Aire styling with Mazda’s 2.5-liter turbocharged engine. Output reaches 250 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque on premium fuel, or 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet on regular. Peak torque arrives early, delivering strong off-the-line response. The interior maintains the light, modern theme with suede-like inserts and gray stitching.

At the top of the range is the 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus, priced at $37,900. It adds paddle shifters, SiriusXM satellite radio, an auto-dimming driver-side mirror, and Cruising and Traffic Support. This advanced driver assistance system can maintain distance in traffic and provide steering support when lane markings are detected. Gloss black exterior accents reinforce its flagship status.

Color Upgrades and Price Range

Premium paint colors such as Snowflake White Pearl Mica, Machine Gray Metallic, Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Aero Gray Metallic, Polymetal Gray Metallic, and Ceramic Metallic are available for $595.
From its $25,975 entry point to its $37,900 Turbo Premium Plus flagship, the 2026 Mazda CX-30 covers a wide spectrum. The lower trims deliver strong value. The upper trims challenge established luxury nameplates. That dual personality defines this model and sets the stage for a deeper evaluation.

As Tested

Mazda sent a 2026 CX-30 2.5 S Aire Edition our way for evaluation. This model, offered in Snowflake White Pearl, was perfectly timed as our area experienced a snow event soon before it arrived. That explains why there are no pictures from us – the blanket of snow along with the attendant salty slush made it impossible to deliver acceptable photography. The images used here are courtesy of Mazda.

Our test model offered all the features mentioned previously with this trim. A few of the extras assigned to this model included a cargo cover ($165), illuminated door sill plates ($575), the paint upgrade, and Mazda’s navigation system ($450). Add in the required $1,495 delivery free brought the MSRP to $33,130.

Interior Elegance

Inside, this model is covered in black/melange gray, a suitable neutral color scheme that works. The seats initially seemed to be leather, but on closer inspection they were not. Instead, Mazda employs a thick and quite comfortable imitation leather with cloth inserts. Not as elegant as the red leather seats in my wife’s 2023 CX-30, but handsome nonetheless.

Chilly mornings meant activating the heated front seats. In this trim, there is no heated steering wheel, but we managed. The power-adjustable front seat with lumbar support was the clincher for us and this driver found just the right level of bracing for his 6-foot frame. A bonus would have been a pull-out thigh support (extender), but that was not an option. Ask anyone who drives long distances and they will tell you how helpful an extender is.

The Driver’s Perspective

Most interactions take place through a tactile, premium-feeling layout. Mazda continues to rely on its Commander Switch, a large rotary knob on the center console that you turn, tilt, and press to move through menus. The design favors muscle memory over screen tapping.

Touchscreen functionality is available for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the larger display. Even so, the screen sits far enough away that the rotary controller or steering wheel controls often prove more natural.

Climate controls remain physical. Two large dials and dedicated buttons handle temperature, heated seats, and the heated steering wheel. A separate volume knob sits beside the Commander Switch, allowing quick audio adjustments without reaching toward the dash.

Cabin Comfort

As for the rest of the cabin, the front passenger enjoys a near equal comfort level as the driver, minus the power controls. For the rear passengers, that space is tight. On paper, three fit. In reality, it is suitable for two and smaller passengers at that. If you are looking for a true five-passenger utility vehicle, we recommend starting with the Mazda CX-5.

And as for rear cargo space, we were impressed by the roominess offered. And if you fold down the rear seat, you and your significant other can enjoy a week’s vacation with ample storage space at the ready.

Parting Thoughts

All in all, the 2026 Mazda CX-30 supplies a strong combination of value and premium features across the product range. The standard all-wheel drive and relatively large engines supply it with an edge in the segment. Thus, its overall value proposition is strong in an ultra-competitive class.
