The refreshed 2024 Ford F-150 unveiled.
Ford’s best-selling vehicle, also the world’s most popular full-size pickup, is set for a refresh in its 2024 model. Scheduled to launch early next year, the updated F-150 will offer enhanced features and technology to meet customer needs. The truck was unveiled just ahead of the 2023 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Highlights of the 2024 Ford F-150
As expected, Ford dumped copious amounts of press material along with the big reveal. We’ve distilled that information to supply the following highlights along with explanations of various features.
Durability and Design
Constructed with a robust steel frame and a military-grade aluminum body, the F-150 provides leading payload and towing capacities. Since its introduction in 2021, the truck has undergone extensive testing under a variety of extreme conditions. It’s important to note that the 2024 model is an update rather than a full redesign. The fifteenth-generation F-150 is expected to be released in 2026.
The 2024 Ford F-150 undergoes a design evolution that melds tradition with modern flair across its various models, from Lariat to Platinum. The front clip now features standard LED lighting, enhancing both visibility and the vehicle’s refined yet robust aesthetic. Each model brings its own distinctive lighting signature; Lariat to Platinum models sport C-Clamp DRL signature lighting, while lower series have amber horizontal turn indicators. The classic grille has been reimagined with high-quality materials and colors that seamlessly integrate with the vehicle’s overall design, retaining its iconic Ford F-Series identity.
On the STX trim, Ford introduces an all-new coast-to-coast grille that fuses aggressive modern styling with classic Ford elements, without compromising the legendary Built Ford Tough durability. To add a dash of flair, STX models also include eye-catching Lime Green accents. The F-150 line has expanded its appearance packages to suit a wide range of customer needs. The popular Black Appearance Package is now available from STX through to the Lariat models, while the Platinum series comes with blacked-out interior and exterior accents as standard. Adding the final touch, Ford offers a broad selection of wheel designs and sizes, ranging from blacked-out to chrome, ensuring there’s an F-150 that matches every personality.
Platinum Plus Replaces the Limited
The 2024 Platinum Plus series replaces the Limited model as the top-tier F-150 option, featuring a Smoked Truffle Interior Theme with Bronzed Copper accents. The Base Platinum has Platinum Blue accents and brushed aluminum. The grilles on the XL and STX models use two types of grain to achieve a combination of appearance and durability. In the XLT and Lariat models, the seats are Medium Dark Smoked Truffle color, paired with a black interior. An additional Smoked Truffle interior with Dark Smoked Truffle accents is also available for Platinum Plus.
The King Ranch model has been updated with a bi-metallic color scheme that combines Sinister Bronze with chrome. The door and trim details feature a micro-texture similar to a bullwhip. The interior also includes a new Bronzed Copper finish that complements the existing tarnished brass metal finish. Across the F-150 lineup, the materials have been selected for their durability and quality. This includes seat fabrics designed for high-intensity use and front-end materials selected for their resistance to scratches and rock chips.
Engine and Power
Standard Engine: A 2.7-liter EcoBoost with improved horsepower and torque.
Additional Choices: Engines range from 3.5-liter options to a 5.2-liter supercharged V8.
Performance: Consistent, if not improved, horsepower and torque across all models.
This means that the current 3.3-liter V6 is gone. As before, a 10-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear or to all four wheels. We’ll have updated performance information in a subsequent story.
Smart Features
The F-150 offers smart tech such as electric power export for job sites and hands-free driving options. These features are enhanced by an exclusive 5G LTE modem.
Connectivity for Fleet Management
Advanced connectivity allows for seamless data transfer, aiding fleet managers in increasing productivity.
Towing and Payload
Ford delivers best-in-class numbers for towing and payload.
Max Towing: 13,500 pounds
Max Payload: 2,455 pounds
Pricing and Features
Hybrid and 3.5-liter EcoBoost models will have matching starting prices. The hybrid model offers the same durability and capabilities as the traditional options but adds unique benefits like higher horsepower and onboard power options. This is a big deal because hybrids typically carry an upcharge ranging from $1,500 to $3,000.
Onboard Power Capabilities
The Pro Power Onboard system is often highlighted as a favorite among Ford owners, being both an industry-first and exclusive to the class.
Previously employed during winter storms in Texas, this feature not only charged mobile devices but also kept essential home appliances running. It has been versatile enough to save social events, like powering sound systems at weddings and concerts during power failures.
Typically, Pro Power Onboard keeps equipment fully charged at construction sites and provides energy for tailgating at sports events.
A revamped digital dashboard allows for easier monitoring of remaining power, accessible either via the vehicle’s SYNC 4 screen or the FordPass app.
Power Options for Pro Power Onboard
2.0kW: Available for gasoline models, this option can easily handle the needs of a football tailgate, including a TV, speaker, and other appliances.
2.4kW: Standard for trucks with the PowerBoost hybrid system, this power level allows up to 85 continuous hours of operation on a full gas tank—sufficient for long workdays or even hosting a pop-up drive-in movie.
7.2kW: The highest power offering, favored by three out of four PowerBoost customers, can sustain a mobile construction or repair crew for up to 32 consecutive hours.
Smart & Safe Technology
The 2024 Ford F-150 comes standard with 10 driver-assist features, such as Automatic Emergency Braking and Lane Keeping System, making it the most intelligent F-150 to date. The range of advanced features extends across all models, with options like Ford BlueCruise for hands-free highway driving and a 360-degree camera for better situational awareness.
Towing Made Easy
Pro Trailer Hitch Assist simplifies the process of hitching a trailer by automatically aligning and controlling the truck’s movement.
Pro Trailer Backup Assist helps guide the trailer when reversing, requiring minimal setup.
Real-time Towing Data
Onboard Scales with Smart Hitch estimate payload and tongue weight, viewable on the SYNC 4 screen or LED taillight display.
Enhanced Driving Experience
Ford BlueCruise 1.2 not only offers hands-free driving but also features like Lane Change Assist and In-Lane Repositioning.
Improved Digital Interface
A 12-inch touchscreen and cluster screen are standard, offering customized views for various driving modes.
Additional Security
The truck introduces Ford Stolen Vehicle Services, offering features like unauthorized access alerts and vehicle tracking to help recover a stolen vehicle.
By packing these advanced capabilities, the 2024 F-150 aims to set a new standard in pickup truck productivity and safety.
A New Era in Tailgate Functionality: The Pro Access Tailgate
For the 2024 F-150, Ford takes tailgating to a new level with the Pro Access Tailgate. This advanced feature offers a unique 100-degree swing gate, opening from the driver’s side for convenient access. It makes towing easier and even includes a specially designed handle for smooth entry and exit.
The Pro Access Tailgate is also designed to be trailer-friendly, with built-in stops to prevent the door from hitting the trailer jack. No more stretching to reach items; this design brings 19 inches of additional reach compared to traditional tailgates.
Tailgate Opening Angles:
37 degrees: Allows easy access while avoiding trailer jack interference.
70 degrees: Provides even more bed access in tighter spaces.
100 degrees: Offers maximal opening for effortless loading and unloading.
Additional features include a wider, deeper rear bumper step for secure footing and compatibility with various bed accessories. Whether you’re using one hand or a key fob, opening the Pro Access Tailgate is a breeze, proving once again that Ford is redefining what a tailgate can be.
Bed Storage Box
The F-150 features a conveniently located bed storage box behind the rear wheel wells, offering secure storage for tools and accessories. Accessible from the swing gate without needing to open the tailgate, it’s standard in the lineup. Models without Pro Power Onboard come with an additional storage box on the left side for certain bed sizes.
Ford F-150 Tremor
The 2024 Ford F-150 Tremor is engineered for off-road enthusiasts while retaining the core truck functionalities of the F-150 series. Here are the key features:
Off-Road Design: Inspired by real-world use cases, from cornfields to rocky trails, the Tremor is tailored for a rugged lifestyle.
Modular Front Bumper: An optional feature, the bumper has a dual-tone finish of Tarnished Dark Anodized and Carbon Black for a more aggressive look.
Customizable Grille: The vehicle features a unique Tremor coast-to-coast grille with Active Orange Accents, further enhancing its off-road appeal.
Accessory Compatibility: The front bumper and grille are designed to facilitate easy installation of additional off-road accessories.
Light Bar & Winch Kit: For added visibility, an optional light bar can be added. A dealer-installed Ford Performance Winch Kit with a 12,000-pound WARN winch is also available.
Distinctive Exterior Details: The Tremor has unique running boards, a box side decal, and customized decorative elements like accent stitching and special floor mats.
Upcoming Accessories: Ford’s Vehicle Personalization team is working on offering more accessory options in the near future.
Balanced Off-Road Capability: Designed by Ford’s off-road veterans, the Tremor provides enhanced off-roading capabilities compared to standard F-150 models, although it’s not as specialized for desert racing as the Raptor.
This combination of features makes the Tremor a purpose-built off-roading truck with customization and styling options that set it apart from the rest of the F-150 lineup.
Ford F-150 Raptor
The 2024 F-150 Raptor takes off-road performance and aggressive styling to new heights. Here are the highlights:
Advanced FOX Dual Live Valve Shocks: Building on the success of FOX Live Valve shocks from 2019, the new Dual Live Valve shocks bring even more control to both on-road and off-road driving. They adjust in real-time, hundreds of times per second, thanks to Ford’s exclusive off-road algorithms.
Position-Sensitive Compression & Rebound Control: These new features further fine-tune the Raptor’s suspension for varying off-road conditions.
Five-Link Rear Suspension: Launched in 2021, this system perfectly synergizes with the Dual Live Valve shocks for unmatched off-road stability and traction.
Modular Front Bumper: Exclusively available for Raptors with 37-inch tires, this bumper exposes more front tire for enhanced off-road capability and comes with an optional light bar attachment for night-time adventures.
Forged Tow Hooks & Blackout Grille: These make the Raptor not just functional but also visually striking. The tow hooks are sturdy enough to assist non-Raptor vehicles, and the blackout grille adds a menacing look.
Cutting-Edge Off-Road Tech: The Raptor includes a Terrain Management System with seven drive modes, standard Trail Control, and an optional One-Pedal Drive feature.
Distinctive Styling: The Raptor R variant sports a unique Power Dome on the hood, new symmetrical hood graphics, and vivid “Raptor” graphics above the wheel lip molding.
Fresh Colors & Textures: With new exterior colors like Shelter Green, unique to the Raptor, the vehicle is designed to blend into forested landscapes and stand out in desert terrains.
Iconic Raptor R Branding: Features exclusive hood and fender graphics, along with a special color scheme of Code Orange and Carbonized Gray, making it unmistakably Raptor.
Arriving Early 2024
The refreshed F-150 arrives early in the 2024 calendar year. Although not a complete overhaul, the changes should resonate with customers, keeping them in the fold. We’ll have pricing and performance details nearer to its release date.
