Nissan is revamping its business model and plans to launch at least 10 new or refreshed models by 2027. These vehicles will target American and Canadian markets, offering more gas, hybrid, and electric options. Read on to learn about Nissan’s efforts to boost customer satisfaction and profitability.
Powertrain Strategy
Nissan will diversify its lineup to meet growing demand for varied propulsion technologies:
- Next-generation EVs.
- Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).
- Third-generation e-POWER hybrid system.
- Advanced internal combustion engines.
Vehicle Launch Timeline
Nissan runs its business by the fiscal year (FY). It starts every April 1. Thus, the plans Nissan announced will run into early 2028.
FY25 Highlights
All-New Nissan LEAF
- Redesigned as a crossover with improved aerodynamics.
- CMF-EV platform, new 3-in-1 EV powertrain.
- Available features: 19-inch alloy wheels, panoramic moonroof.
- First Nissan EV in North America with NACS (Tesla Supercharger) port.
- Arrives in American and Canadian showrooms by this fall.
First North American Plug-In Hybrid
- Debuting in a PHEV version of the compact Rogue SUV. The Rogue is the Nissan brand’s most popular model.
Also planned:
- New-Generation Nissan Sentra, a compact sedan. One of few compact cars still available in the U.S.
- Refreshed Nissan Pathfinder, a midsize three-row crossover with room for up to eight.
INFINITI Updates
- Refreshed QX60 three-row SUV.
- New SPORT package for the QX80 full-size SUV.
FY26 Highlights
Fourth-Generation Nissan Rogue
- First U.S. application of e-POWER hybrid system.
- Multiple powertrains: e-POWER, ICE, and PHEV.
Nissan’s e-POWER is a unique hybrid system where the gasoline engine acts solely as a generator to charge the battery, while an electric motor powers the wheels. This setup delivers the smooth, instant acceleration of an electric vehicle without requiring plug-in charging.
INFINITI QX65
All-new crossover coupe inspired by the INFINITI FX. The FX was Infiniti’s performance SUV. Hopefully, the new model will build on that legacy.
FY27 and Beyond
All-New Nissan EV SUV
- Adventure-focused, built in Canton, Mississippi.
- U.S.-manufactured batteries via SK On partnership.
FY28: All-New INFINITI EV SUV
- Based on Vision QXe concept.
- Features new design language and advanced technologies.
Next-Generation e-POWER System
Nissan’s third-generation e-POWER will debut in FY26 on the next-generation Rogue.
- 15 percent efficiency improvement at high speeds vs. Generation 2.
- Lower emissions, quieter operation.
- New 1.5-liter e-POWER dedicated three-cylinder engine.
- 5-in-1 system shares components with latest EVs.
- Over 1.6 million e-POWER units produced since 2016.
Manufacturing and Investment
The company also underscores its US investment strategy through its Mississippi plant and via its partnership with a South Korean battery manufacturer.
Enhanced Canton, MS EV Production
- $500 million investment from Nissan, making this facility a hub for electric vehicle building.
- $661 million joint investment with SK On for U.S.-built batteries.
- Supports 1,700 U.S. jobs.
This strategic alliance underscores Nissan’s commitment to electrification and sustainable mobility, aiming to enhance its EV offerings and strengthen the domestic supply chain for advanced EV technologies. The U.S.-manufactured batteries will play a crucial role in powering Nissan’s future EV lineup, contributing to the company’s broader electrification goals in the North American market.
Discontinued Models
As Nissan reshapes its North American product line, several models will retire. Last year, Nissan ended the GT-R, its sports car, then followed by stopping production of its flagship Maxima sedan. It also discontinued its full-size Titan pickup truck line, although it remains committed to its midsize Frontier pickup truck. Lastly, the midsize Nissan Altima sedan goes away after this year. It is expected that the subcompact Versa will also come to an end.
Moving Nissan Motors Forward
Fresh off canceled merger discussions with Honda, Nissan plans to move forward by overhauling its business strategy. New and refreshed models are at the heart of this move, an initiative Nissan hopes will reenergize the company while building customer confidence. It is a pivotal move that cannot come fast enough in a rapidly changing world.
