2023 Toyota Sequoia Specifications

The Toyota Sequoia is all-new for 2023, launching this model’s third generation in summer 2022. The Sequoia is based on the identical body-on-frame platform as the full-size Toyota Tundra pickup truck. It will also be built on the same assembly line as the Tundra in San Antonio, Texas.

We spent nearly a week with Toyota early this month evaluating several models, including the 2023 Lexus RX and the all-new Sequoia. Our evaluation here is based on a full day of driving, including on an off-road course, and towing a boat and then a camper. We will have more details about this model once one is offered in our press fleet rotation.

9 Questions About the 2023 Toyota Sequoia

We’ve assembled all the key specifications for the 2023 Sequoia. Moreover, the following common questions are answered about this model.

1. Why a new model and why now?

The market for traditional SUVs remains strong. The trouble is, Toyota hasn’t been especially invested in the segment, having last overhauled this model in 2008. Interim changes were not enough to keep it relevant, but Toyota sees potential in the market, thus the new model. The Sequoia is related to the Tundra pickup truck, therefore much of the architecture and powertrain are common.

2. How big is the new Sequoia?

The 2023 Sequoia sits on a 122-inch wheels base and is 208.1 inches long, 79.6 inches wide, and up to 77.7 inches tall. It is approximately the size of a Chevrolet Tahoe. This model weighs approximately three tons and has room for eight (seven in some trims).

3. How many trims are available?

The 2023 Toyota Sequoia is offered in five trims. SR5, Limited, Platinum, TRD PRO, and Capstone. The TRD PRO is four-wheel drive only. The other trims come with standard rear-wheel drive and available four-wheel drive. The SR5 comes well equipped and offers package upgrades.

4. What is the styling like?

The pictures supplied tell much about the Sequoia and its visage. This SUV has a powerful stance, an aggressive demeanor, and a premium interior – especially on top-trim models. We found the interior roomy across the first two rows and reasonable for the third row. Swapping out the middle-row bench seat for captain’s chairs results in the loss of one passenger seat, but it supplies a more comfortable environment behind the front row.

5. How well equipped is this model from a safety standpoint?

Every Sequoia model offers uniform driver-assist technologies across all grades. This is unusual where such features like adaptive cruise control with full stop and go, and lane control might not be found on base models. Instead, Toyota includes these features and more. Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, and road sign assist are standard. Toyota also includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

6. Where can I find an oversized touchscreen display?

All trims except the SR5 come equipped with a 14-inch touchscreen display. The base model has an 8-inch screen, but customers may upgrade to the larger unit. The new interface is a strong improvement over the previous one, but that was easy to do. Yes, the old system was clunky and outdated. This one, though, offers a clear and crisp display and is also activated by a “Hey Toyota” command. Other tech features include wireless Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, multiple USB ports, and 8- or 14-speaker sound systems.

7. What motivates the 2023 Sequoia?

The all-new Sequoia is a hybrid SUV, but it isn’t the kind of hybrid Toyota usually makes. This one features an electric motor sitting on the bell housing between the engine and the transmission. That placement tells you something important: not only is this SUV more efficient, but it is powerful. Under the hood is a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine with 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque. Power routes to the wheels utilizing a 10-speed automatic transmission.

8. Where and when can I get one?

The 2023 Toyota Sequoia goes on sale late summer of 2022. However, we advise placing an order for one as dealer stock will be limited. If you want to wait for the first Sequoia to appear to test drive one, then contact your local Toyota dealer. You should be able to get a test drive. If you choose a Sequoia, the dealer will give you an estimate on when your new model will arrive.

9. Who or what models are the competition?

We mentioned that the Toyota Sequoia is slightly larger than the Chevrolet Tahoe. The stretched wheelbase version of that SUV is the Chevrolet Suburban. Other models to consider include the Nissan Armada, Ford Expedition, and the GMC Yukon.

The Verdict

We believe the all-new Sequoia presents a strong entry in a competitive segment. Its modern design, novel powertrain, and strong safety features work to its advantage. The tech features along with the available head-up display put Sequoia in solid company.

Toyota prices the Sequoia above such competitors as the Ford Expedition and Chevrolet Tahoe. That said, this model comes better equipped. We think its nearest competitor is the GMC Yukon. The Capstone model reminds us of the Yukon Denali. In any case, the 2023 Sequoia should shake the segment and garner a significant sales boost for Toyota. The automaker expects to triple its sales. Then again, the company hasn’t been selling much more than 10,000 units annually of its 15-year design.
