Presenting the New Mazda CX-70

Exterior Characteristics

Midsize crossovers have become the family vehicle of choice. As such, manufacturers direct their resources accordingly to develop appealing models.

Mazda uses a similar theme across its entire model line. Known as KODO – soul of motion – it is a design philosophy we have commented on extensively for many years. The design doesn’t age, though Mazda does tweak it here and there, including with the lighting elements.

KODO is known for its prominent grille, including a gaping maw, sleek lighting elements, flowing signature lines, powerful shoulders, and strategically placed curves. There are some distinctions between models, including different patterns on cars versus utility vehicles. That said, Mazda delivers a near perfect blend of elegance and sportiness, a combination that places the brand at or near the top among other mainstream brands.

Interior Attributes

The 2025 Mazda CX-70’s interior, shaped by the KODO design philosophy, embodies a refined and human-centric approach that seamlessly blends elegance with functionality. The cabin features a minimalist aesthetic, with a clean and uncluttered layout that prioritizes the driver’s needs. High-quality materials like Nappa leather, real wood accents, and polished metal trim are used throughout, creating a sophisticated and luxurious environment. This attention to material quality not only enhances the visual appeal but also ensures a tactile sense of luxury.

Ergonomic design is at the forefront of the CX-70’s interior, with every element positioned for easy reach and comfort. The driver-centric cockpit features an instrument panel and controls oriented towards the driver, promoting a natural driving posture and enhancing the connection between the driver and the vehicle. The seats are sculpted for maximum support, ensuring comfort on long drives, while subtle ambient lighting adds to the warm and inviting atmosphere. This thoughtful design creates a harmonious environment that is both dynamic and serene, reflecting the essence of Mazda’s KODO philosophy.

Advanced technology is seamlessly integrated into the interior design of the CX-70, enhancing functionality without disrupting the aesthetic flow. Features such as a large infotainment display, heads-up display, and advanced driver-assistance systems are incorporated in a way that maintains the clean lines and uncluttered look of the cabin. The spacious and versatile interior offers ample room for passengers and cargo, with rear seats that can be easily folded down to expand the cargo area. Every detail, from the stitching to the surface finishes, is meticulously crafted to ensure both beauty and durability, creating an overall sense of harmony and balance that enhances every journey.

Technology Features

We touched on the tech offerings within the trim offerings. All we’ll add here is comments that roughly parallel what we’ve said in the past. In particular, the Mazda interface remains a disappointment.

How so? The system uses a center knob and a few buttons to control the screen. We said screen, because it isn’t a touchscreen EXCEPT when interfaced with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Only then can users access the screen. Odd? Yes. Also: the screen isn’t within easy reach – short drivers must extend their arms fully or move their seats forward to access it.

Driver Assist Safety

Standard i-Activsense safety features include Smart Brake Support, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go. Additional features are Driver Attention Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and a Rear View Monitor with static guidelines.
