Presenting the New Mazda CX-70

The Mazda CX-70 is the latest utility vehicle from this niche, Japanese automaker. Like its other SUVs, this one brings cutting-edge style, advanced safety and technology features, and a choice of powertrains. New for 2025, the CX-70 includes a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version that represents an efficient, yet powerful variant worth considering.

Model Highlights

The CX-70 shares its dimensions with the Mazda CX-90. The difference between the two is simply seating capacity. The CX-90 offers room for seven across three rows. On the other hand, the CX-70 offers space for five across two rows.

Certainly, Mazda could have offered both under one name, like what Volkswagen does. Specifically, the similar-size Atlas is known as the Atlas Sport in its two-row configuration, which does, incidentally, offer a few additional distinctions to set itself apart. Nonetheless, this is the avenue Mazda has chosen, therefore we’ll discuss the CX-70 as a distinct model. Further, in this case, our conversation centers on the PHEV, our test model for the week.

Trim Breakdown

Mazda offers two trims with this PHEV.

Mazda CX-70 PHEV Premium

The CX-70 PHEV features the e-Skyactiv PHEV powertrain. It includes a 17.8-kWh battery-powered electric motor and a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. This combination produces a combined 323 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque with premium fuel.

Moreover, the CX-70 PHEV offers up to 26 miles of pure electric range and 56 MPGe. It also boasts a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds when equipped with Mazda Genuine Towing accessories.

Customers benefit from Mazda’s partnership with Qmerit for home charger installation. With trained technicians nationwide, CX-70 PHEV owners can conveniently find a certified Qmerit installer in their area.
