Christmas season fun in Roxboro for one and all.
It was supposed to have been a bright and unseasonably mild December day. Instead, overnight dampness lingered, casting a chill and a gray pall over the final Cars and Coffee Roxboro (NC) gathering of the year.
The temperatures gradually rose, but the clouds remained, even hinting at the destructive storms that tore through four heartland states the night before. Yet, despite the threat or perhaps because of it, few were deterred.
Indeed, one by one or in small packs, enthusiasts appeared, driving their classic cars, modified whips, or their daily drivers. BMWs, Mustangs, JDM, and Korean cars, lifted pickup trucks, and an assortment of altered rides dominated.
Where the weather conditions might have given some a reason to keep their prized rides away, another perhaps more important motivation brought them out. And that was none other than the annual toy drive to aid underprivileged local children.
The organizers brought a Nissan Xterra to collect the toys, raising the liftgate and fixing a festive bow to draw attention. With the rear seat folded, the toys were collected and gradually filled the interior.
By the end of the morning, the SUV was packed with playthings, along with the promise of a spectacular Christmas morning for not a few children. It was a feel-good moment for each contributor, underscoring the “community” thrust of every Cars and Coffee event.
Lastly, this is the final Roxboro show for a few months. Keep an eye out on the group’s Facebook page for updates. Merry Christmas and a Happy 2022 to one and all!
