GM Revives the Chevrolet Bolt

General Motors is bringing back the Chevrolet Bolt for 2027, responding to customer demand for an affordable electric vehicle. The new Bolt continues the legacy of the original 2017 model, which was among the first mass-market EVs to deliver long range at a low price.

The 2027 Bolt will start at $29,990 for the LT launch model, including destination charges. A lower-priced version, listed at $28,995, will follow later in the model year. The Bolt will be sold in hatchback form, with RS and LT trims available, and will be built at GM’s Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Kansas.

Together with the Chevrolet Equinox EV, the new Bolt represents the brand’s near-term EV strategy, targeting buyers who want affordable electric mobility without compromise.

“The Bolt is coming back—by popular demand and better than ever—for a limited time,” said Scott Bell, GM vice president for Global Chevrolet. “This is a celebration of what Bolt means to our customers and to Chevrolet.”

Power and Efficiency

The Bolt uses GM’s X76 electric drive unit, designed for efficiency and built with reduced rare-earth materials. Its 210-horsepower motor produces 169 pound-feet of torque. The system supports 11.5-kilowatt AC charging and 150-kilowatt DC fast charging.

Regenerative braking, including One-Pedal Driving, helps improve range and consistency in brake feel. GM estimates a full charge delivers 255 miles, ideal for the daily driving needs of most Americans.

Design and Technology

The new Bolt features modern styling with a driver-focused interior. It offers an open console layout, panoramic sunroof, and expanded storage options. A new column shifter opens space between the seats.

Inside, drivers get Google Maps with real-time charging data and voice-activated controls through “Hey Google.” Entertainment apps such as HBO Max and Prime Video are available while parked or charging.

Charging and Connectivity

The 2027 Bolt debuts Chevrolet’s first native NACS charging port, expanding access to North America’s growing public fast-charging network. Its Vehicle-to-Home capability can power a properly equipped home during outages when paired with GM’s Energy Home System.

Legacy and Availability

Since its 2017 debut, the Chevrolet Bolt has attracted one of the most loyal followings in the EV market. It helped Chevrolet become the No. 2 EV brand in the U.S. The 2027 edition continues that mission, delivering high value in a compact package.

The Bolt will reach dealerships in early 2026 as a limited-run model, marking a new chapter for GM’s most affordable EV.
