Hot Times at the Sanford Car News Cruise-In!

How’s your summer been? If you’re like most Americans, extreme heat has been part of the experience. Praise the Lord for air conditioning as the conditions are unbearable, even dangerous at times.

But high temperatures are not keeping people inside. Indeed, at the July 2022 rendition of the Sanford Car News Cruise In (NC), dozens of vehicles were on display. We’ve been following this monthly event for a few years now, a cars and coffee style meetup that happens in the afternoon on fourth Saturdays from February through November. It’s a unique gathering based on the time of day and location – at the Spring Lake Galleria shopping mall just off Route 1 (Exit 68).

The Cruise In doesn’t just meet in the parking lot – they’re backed by the Camelback Brewing Company that supplies the music and announcements related to the show. This month’s band, though, canceled but a DJ spun the rock ‘n roll tunes from my high school years. At least the music was flowing and the ale too – I highly recommend the bottled Blood Orange as it was delicious.

Without further blather, we give some of the photos of this month’s show. Oh, and a special shoutout to Camelback as they mark their 4th anniversary today.

Fifth Saturday Car Shows

Once again, we thank Sanford Car News for putting on an enjoyable event. A special shoutout to Jonathon Nowell for always being available to answer questions and for sharing updates. And a hat tip to Kim Mattingly of Maximum Performance Productions for filling me in on some things I missed.

Next Saturday is the fifth Saturday and that happens only four times annually. As such, whatever car shows are held, they’re typically special fund-raising events that happen just once annually.

One such show, the Cars for a Cause, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to close at the Wilkesboro Dragway. This event benefits the UNC Health Children’s Heart Center Fund and is in honor of John Frederick Chandler who died in 2002 after battling heart problems throughout his 18 years.
