Genesis’ first fully electric vehicle, a crossover SUV, is now available. The 2023 Genesis GV60 expands Hyundai’s product line to six vehicles, including two other crossovers and three sedans. The new model is based on Hyundai Motors’ dedicated electric vehicle platform. The GV60 will eventually be joined by other all-electric models.
Genesis prices the GV60 Advanced AWD model from $58,890 (excluding a $1,090 freight charge.) Buyers will also find a Performance AWD model costing $67,890 plus the freight charge. The GV60 is a compact crossover with room for five. It comes with standard all-wheel drive.
Genesis GV60 Highlights
There is much to consider as the GV60 arrives. It operates in a growing segment dominated by Tesla. Soon, the Cadillac Lyriq will join the fray. Within a few years, every luxury brand will be well represented, with multiple EVs to consider. But Genesis is early to the game and that bodes well for Hyundai’s luxury marque.
Range Matters
The standard model comes with 74 kW front and 160 kW rear electric motors. Together they produce 314 horsepower. This model includes a 77.4 kWh battery that delivers an estimated range of 248 miles.
Move up to the performance model and this one has matching 160 kW front and rear electric motors. Thus, it has a net output of 429 horsepower or 483 horsepower when operated in boost mode. This version features a 235-mile estimated electric range.
All models come with a heat pump and a battery heater.
Exterior Features
The 2023 Genesis GV60 rides on 20-inch alloy wheels. It comes with LED headlamps and rear combination lamps, power-folding outside mirrors, retractable power-operated door handles, puddle lamps, and roof rails. Shoppers will also find rain-sensing wipers, a full panoramic roof with a power sunshade, and a tire mobility kit.
Make your move to the highest trim and this one has 21-inch alloy wheels. It also has an electronically controlled suspension, an electronic limited-slip differential, and monobloc front brakes.
Safety Matters
As expected, the GV60 comes with a suite of driver-assist safety features that build on standard equipment such as eight airbags.
These features include forward collision-avoidance assist, lane-keeping assist, lane following assist, and blind-spot collision avoidance assist. Also, Genesis equips this model with a surround-view monitor including blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist, highway driving assist, and adaptive cruise control with full stop and go.
Other standard features include speed limit assist, driver attention warning, high beam assist, parking distance warning, and parking collision avoidance assist.
Tech and Cabin Amenities
The exquisitely crafted interior is a testament to Genesis’ design team. As we have found in other Genesis models, the selection of choice materials along with fit and finish rival the industry’s best.
Genesis equips the GV60 with the standard 12.3-inch color LCD instrument cluster along with a 12.3-inch color display with navigation. A Bang & Olufsen audio system with satellite radio and HD Radio is standard. This model has a head-up display, four USB ports, Bluetooth, connected services, a wireless device charger, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
On the comfort side of the house, the GV60 comes with leather seating surfaces, aluminum trim, and an imitation leather-wrapped instrument panel. Power front seats with four-way power lumbar support, along with heating and ventilation come standard. A heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, aluminum door sill plates, and ambient lighting are included.
Make your move up to the range-topping Performance trim and this one includes alloy pedals. Further, Nappa leather seating surfaces and microfiber suede headliner and pillars are included. A driver’s ergonomic and bolstered front seat also adds a power cushion extension. Rounding out the upgraded features are heated rear seats.
Going Electric
Beyond the GV60, an electrified version of the G80 sedan arrives this summer. This fall, production of an all-electric GV70 SUV begins. By 2025, every Genesis model will offer an electrified version, with the entire product line full electric by 2030.
