Overview of the 2022 Infiniti QX60

The Infiniti QX60 enters its second generation better than ever.

Infiniti has a new crossover utility vehicle, although the name itself is not new. This fall, the 2022 Infiniti QX60 arrives, launching the second generation for this luxury SUV. Fresh styling, a new powertrain combination, updated technologies, and an expanded roster of safety equipment highlight the changes. We previewed the QX60 at a media event in California. The following are our findings.

Infiniti QX60: Four trims for the choosing.

Infiniti offers the 2022 in four trims: Pure ($47,875), Luxe ($53,925), Sensory ($57,375), and Autograph ($61,375). These prices include the $1,025 destination charge. Add $2,000 for all-wheel drive across the model line ($3,000 on the Autograph). There are a few package options available, paint upgrades, and dealer-installed accessories. We think the sweet spot for this model is in the $55-$60,000 range.

Luscious exterior styling.

We liked the look of the previous-generation QX60, but the current iteration simply improves upon the earlier theme. From its majestic grille to sleek frontal lighting and numerous creases and detailing along its profile, this SUV presents a polished appearance. From the rear, the LED lighting roughly matches the styling up front. The blacked-out rear pillars, spoiler, and chrome exhaust garnishment add to the mystique.

Roomy and gorgeous interior.

We test drove several QX60s. Admittedly, all of them came well equipped. Thus, the interiors showcased were the best you will find among the trims, therefore it is difficult to make a comparison. Nonetheless, we like the layout with its tiered dashboard, contrasting colors, and patterned quilted seats. The fit and finish is superb, choice materials are found everywhere, and the ambience is soothing and comfortable.

Seating for six or seven.

On paper, the QX60 seats seven. The standard layout includes two bucket seats in the first row, a three-place second-row bench seat, and a two-place third row split bench seat. Infiniti supplies available captains’ chairs for the second row, which means losing one seat placement. But those chairs are comfortable and come with a removable and lightweight console between them. In any case, the middle row seats, no matter which layout you choose, tilt and flip forward for ease of access to the third row. Speaking about the third row, those seats are fine for averaged-sized adults.

Versatile cargo space.

The standard cargo space in the QX60 is 14.5 cubic feet and that is quite small. Nevertheless, that space holds packages (such as groceries) side by side with ease. Fold down the third row and 41.6 cubic feet of space is available. With both the second and third-row seats folded, the cargo space mushrooms to 75.4 cubic feet.

Equipped as you like it.

Nearly every major amenity is included with the QX60. This model comes with full LED lighting front and back and includes power-folding and heated side mirrors. Aluminum-alloy wheels are standard; only the base trim has 18-inch wheels as the rest have 20-inch wheels. A panoramic moonroof with tilt and slide and a sunshade is also standard. Every model comes with a power liftgate. Among the upgrades are slimline roof rails.

Cabin amenities galore.

Besides full power accessories, three-zone climate control, and a heated steering wheel, the cabin comes chock full of equipment. Power-controlled front seats with lumbar support, heated front seats, and real hides on the first two rows (imitation leather on the third row) are included. Among the upgrades are semi-aniline leather, ventilated front seats, heated outboard second-row seats, and black open-pore ash wood.

Updated powertrain.

Since its launch in 2013 as the JX and a rename the following year, the QX60 has utilized a 3.5-liter V6 engine. This engine makes 295 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque and sends power to the wheels by means of a 9-speed automatic transmission. The new transmission replaces the previous continuously variable transmission, supplying this SUV with an efficient and robust unit. We found the transmission shifts smoothly, delivering the right gear for the moment. We think this transmission is better synched with the engine overall. Moreover, it can be decoupled to send upward of 50 percent of power to the rear wheels. As for fuel economy, this model averages 23 mpg for front-wheel drive and 22 mpg for all-wheel drive.

Capable towing abilities.

The standard QX60 has a pulling capacity of 3,500 pounds, and that is below average for the segment. However, choose the Sensory trim and the available Tow Package ($900) and 6,000 pounds of towing capacity is on tap. That represents one of the highest ratings in this segment.

Improved tech features.

Manufacturers are responding to the ever-changing needs of consumers, including in the tech sphere. For instance, the 2022 QX60 comes with six USB ports and offers a seventh with the Sensory trim (third row). All trims come with a Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wired Android Auto. A 9-speaker audio system is standard. Among the upgrades are a 17-speaker Bose audio system ($900) and wireless phone charging. Choose the Vision Package ($1,500) and this one bundles a 10.8-inch head-up display with a smart rearview monitor. And that’s not all: it also brings in an adaptive front lighting system.

All the leading safety features.

The QX60 comes with a long list of standard driver-assist safety technologies. These include high beam assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and lane departure warning. Also, Infiniti includes blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear automatic braking. All but the base trim comes with standard adaptive cruise control. Also available is driver attention alert. As mentioned, the adaptive lighting system is bundled within the Vision Package.

Infiniti QX60: Something for Fans, Old and New

Infiniti faithful should find the all-new QX60 to their liking. The fresh styling starts things off, followed by an updated interior and new tech and safety equipment. The 9-speed automatic transmission is a people pleaser too – we think it supplies a more satisfactory drive experience all around.

Finally, if you are not sure which Infiniti model to choose, the two-row QX50 and QX55 might satisfy anyone needing room for four. On the other hand, the range-topping QX80 delivers a satisfying combination of luxury, performance, and towing capabilities, while matching the QX60 in passenger-carrying capabilities.
