What Will Automated Vehicles Mean For Keen Drivers?

0

Anyone paying attention to the car industry as of late will have noticed the growing interest in autonomous and automated cars. Essentially, these cars don’t need human interaction. They drive themselves allowing drivers to do whatever they like on the road. Theoretically, while your car is driving you down the M6, you could be watching a film in the back. It’s like having your own personal chauffeur, which sounds rather brilliant.

In fact, people are incredibly excited about this tech because they think it will lead to zero accidents on the road. Just imagine a time where road accidents were eliminated from our lives completely. Well, that day could be upon us, and it’s all thanks to automated technology.

Of course, drivers who love taking control of their cars will be feeling a little weary of this possibility. If automated car tech continues to evolve could we be looking at a day when the roads no longer are a place for true drivers? We certainly could. For this to occur, a few things will need to happen. The tech will need to be affordable, new laws will have to be in place, and it will need to have been proven to be a safe solution. However, imagining for a second that did happen, what would it mean for drivers who wanted to appreciate the thrill of driving?

Off To The Races

You might think that automated cars will eliminate the racing industry, but that’s nonsense. You see F1 and even Nascar are often slotted firmly into the sports category. They test a driver’s skill. We have machines that can run faster than men, but we still watch Olympians race. We have machines that can beat the living daylights out of each other, but we still prefer a good boxing match. Why? We like watching humans test their skill and the same is true for racing. We love seeing how fast people can go in a moderately safe environment and championing the winners. Even if every car on the road is automated, there will still be F1 drivers. As for other people, there is another place where driving will no doubt always be allowed.

VR

Of course, if you can’t afford to become an F1 driver you can always trust VR to be around. If anything you’ll be able to get an F1 simulator for sale that will be affordable for your home. Right now, they are used by the experts and the champion drivers. But one day that will be tech that you can get in your house, and it might be the only way you will actually be able to feel what it’s like to drive a car.

Tracks

You can take your car down to the track today for a good race, and that will be true in a future filled with automation. Again, it’s about the safety aspect. Driving a car on the track isn’t nearly as dangerous to yourself or others compared with road driving. As such, there’s no reason to eliminate this type of activity. Instead, you can continue racing around with your friends away from the roads filled with cars powered by AI.

So whether or not automated vehicles take off the road, you can rest easy knowing there will always be some way to still appreciate the thrill of driving.
